Disruptions of the Real displays a return to Mauricio Villamil’s conceptual and technical roots. Based in introspection and exploration of his psyche, Villamil eschews contemporary art trends by deep-diving into his own world where beauty is a portal to poetry and magic. With simple themes, Villamil attempts to circumvent the thinking mind and speak directly to the viewer’s subconscious. The atavistic nature of the subject of these works—the human form—offers a “freeze frame of the continuous flow of reality”—a minute of silence, an instant for contemplation.”
This event is taking place on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tseil-Waututh Nations.
